Back to work
After waiting for over a week, my background checks cleared and I passed my drug test...I go to work for a bank operations center tomorrow. The assignment is supposed to last 2-4 weeks. Kinda weird that we're starting tomorrow, especially since they're only open 8:30-1 tomorrow and Friday...but it's all good. That's 9 hours of work that I didn't have last week or the week before or the week before...etc. etc. etc.
April is enjoying her new job immensely. I hope I enjoy mine as well.
Life is good...for now.

No news is no news, but...
I haven't posted much lately for a variety of reasons, mainly because I don't want to bring people down. I want to be able to post cool stuff again, and I'm just not feeling it right now.
I was hoping to start a new temp job today. Unfortunately, the company I'm supposed to be working for has been moving slowly, so I'm hamstrung until they proceed further. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
But I am gonna brag on my wife for a minute. April starts her new job on Friday as a part-time cook at the original Kaldi's Coffeehouse in Clayton. It's a step-up from her other job (which she'll work at on a less-frequent basis), as she'll actually be making the delicious vegetarian meals that Kaldi's on DeMun serves. I used to frequent the shop when I worked in the neighborhood in the late 90s...it's a nice little place and the food is delicious.
I'm so proud of her...she starts cooking in school in January, and now she'll be cooking as her primary gig. w00t!
I wish I could find my niche like she has...though with my new business, maybe I have...

Going solo
No...April and I are doing well...I mean that I'm going to try and work for myself.
I have decided to take all the years of experience and education that I have and apply them to making businesses more efficient. And so I present to you the re-launch of Sycamore Services.
Sycamore Services is a one-man wrecking machine. I'll do the admin and clerical crap that you really need done, but just don't have the time or inclination to do. I'll help you with payroll, tinker with your computer or network, help you write business manuals, look at your business structure to remove waste...I'll even take photos and come up with marketing ideas for you!
"Well, that's fine and good," you say, "but what makes you qualified to do such things?"
I'm glad you asked that. I have 17 years of clerical and administrative experience, five years of managerial experience, a Bachelors degree in psychology and a Masters degree in business management. I've written grants for St. Louis Children's Hospital, developed test conditions for a new mainframe system and built intranet help guides for a risk management company and built departments from the ground-up. I deliver results...my former supervisors will tell you this, my outside clients will tell you this. And unlike some folks, I won't charge you extra for night or weekend service...I am currently available 24/7 and can provide quick service throughout the Midwest.
You have some problems...I have some solutions...let's talk.
If you know people that could use my services, please refer them to me. If you don't have my phone number, contact me by e-mail...first type terryb, then put an at sign after that, then put the domain name sicomoro.us.
Thanks!

Marilyn Wheeler, 1932-2009
My Aunt Marilyn passed away early Friday morning, after battling cancer over the past few years...she was 77. She was the 2nd oldest of the 7 in the Broyles clan (my mom is #7), and is the 2nd to pass away in the past 2 years.
I was not particularly close to Aunt Marilyn, though we lived in the same apartment complex as her for 4 years. Aunt Marilyn served our country in the Army, worked hard for what is now the new AT&T, enjoyed her retirement and had two good kids and two grandkids. That's all you can really ask for out of life, isn't it?
Rest in peace...
